Jodrell Bank mailart
Jodrell Bank mailart from:
Dan Froude, a Graphic Designer whose fondness for the postal system began when, as a student, he successfully sent a piece of toast in the post.
My Astronomy-themed postcard pays homage to the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank Observatory. Over 50 years old, the telescope, which proudly overlooks the Cheshire plains, is a remarkable feat of engineering. Its 76-metre diameter dish makes it the world's third largest, fully-steerable radio telescope and I wanted to graphically represent this dish along with some of its impressive statistics on my postcard. On the reverse are two space-related stamps from the Millennium Stamps series; a 64p depicting Saturn marking the development of astronomical telescopes, (specifically Hubble), and a 26p with an image of space representing the National Space Centre at Leicester. Posted in Greenwich, home of the Royal Observatory.
