Artistamps June 2011
Thursday's(30th June) artistamp marks the birthday on this day back in 1938 when Superman made his appearance in the very first issue of Action Comics published by DC Comics.

Wednesday's(29th) artistamp marked Camera Day so why not get out your camera and take a positively postal picture? Maybe I'll be able to use your picture to make up some new artistamps?

Tuesday's artistamp features a pearl as that is June's birthstone for the month so thought I'd better show it before June turns into July...

Monday's artistamp marks the day when the melody to Happy Birthday was first composed back in 1859 by a schoolteacher, Mildred J. Hill, born in Louisville, USA.
So a case of Happy Birthday to Happy Birthday!

Sunday's (26th) artistamp marked toothbrush day so no excuse for not cleaning your teeth!

On Saturday we had a whole set of artistamps based on a rather wonderful drawing of a giraffe by Amelia, my youngest daughter, hence the title "Amelia's Giraffe Post", available at all Post Offices over 5 metres above the ground!

Is it a bird, is it a plane, is it Superman....
None of the above so it must be Positively Postal's artistamp marking UFO day!

Johannes Gutenburg, inventor of the printing press, was said to have been born on this day(23rd) back in 1400 but it appears that nobody really knows his exact date of birth. Still it was a good enough reason to show him on the first of two artistamps for today!
Edward VIII (Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David, later The Duke of Windsor) was born on this day back in 1894 and was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth, and Emperor of India, from 20 January to 11 December 1936. He was one of the shortest-reigning monarchs in British and Commonwealth history and was never crowned.

June 22nd 2011 marked 100 years to the day of King George V and Queen Mary's Coronation back in 1911 so in the absence of a real Royal Mail stamp here is Positively Postal's offering!

Tuesday was Cancer's first day in the Zodiac Calendar.

Monday's (20th) artistamp marks Bald Eagle Day!

June 19th was Father's Day.

June 19th also marks the introduction on this day back in 1978 of one of my favourite cartoon strip characters, Garfield who is still going strong after 33 years, go cat, go!

Saturday (18th) marks International Picnic Day so if it happens to not be raining (huh, it is here now!) then why not go and have a picnic.

Before the month of June comes to an end, here is its flower of the month, the rose, on Friday's(17th) artistamp.

June 16th was Fudge Day so let's not fudge the issue, just have a sweet piece of fudge, you know you want to!

Feeling a bit grumpy and fed-up? Don't forget the power of a smile which was designated to Wednesday(15th) and its accompanying artistamp!

Tuesday(14th) was "Pop goes the Weasel Day" (yes, really!) so here we have that classic nursery rhyme on that day's artistamp.

Half a pound of tuppenny rice,
Half a pound of treacle.
That’s the way the money goes,
Pop! goes the weasel.
On Monday(13th) it was time to get out and weed your garden on "Weed your garden" day!

Sunday's (12th)artistamp marked the birthday of Anne Frank on this day in 1929.

Hard to believe that it was on this day(11th) back in 1982 that the film E.T. was premiered!

Friday (10th) was Ball Point Pen day so what better time to switch off the computer, laptop, i-phone etc, go old school and get writing a letter!

We're celebrated the birthday of Frank Lloyd Wright's on June 9th. Here is a picture of one of his most famous buildings - Mill Run Falling Water.
In 1987, on 8th June New Zealand's Labour Government establised a national nuclear-free zone. Positively Postal will follow suit and declare the day's artistamp a nuclear-free zone. On 7th June 1909, Mary Pickford made her screen debut at the age of 16. Here she is on Tuesday's artistamp On 6th June 1944 Operation Overlord - the long anticipated Allied invasion of Nazi-held Europe - went into action. This is what came to be known as the 'D-day landings'. On Monday we commemorated this historic event on our artistamp. Sunday was National Gingerbread Day in USA. Yum.
